Zambia Ultra-High Temperature Constant-Temperature Layer Chicken Farming Project
In Zambia, a country in southern Africa, a large-scale egg-laying chicken farm has successfully transformed from traditional farming to intelligent, intensive, and ecological farming through continuous cooperation with Poultech. From their initial collaboration in 2022 to their further deepening of cooperation in 2024, this project has become a benchmark case for modern egg-laying chicken farming in Africa.
Project Background: A Leapfrog Upgrade from 4 to 9 Floors
This Zambian farm first partnered with Poultech in 2022, introducing then-advanced 4-story layer hen housing equipment. With the continuous expansion of its operations and the sustained growth in market demand, the farm underwent two major upgrades—expanding from 4 floors to 8 floors, and finally upgrading to a 9-story ultra-high-rise constant-temperature layer hen housing system.
This tiered upgrade path reflects the farm’s steady exploration in intensive farming. The ultra-high-rise constant-temperature housing system, through its multi-layered structural design, significantly improves space utilization and reduces land occupation, achieving a doubling of breeding capacity within limited space. Simultaneously, the intelligent environmental control system precisely regulates temperature, humidity, and lighting within the chicken house, creating the optimal growth and egg-laying environment for the hens.
Intelligent Egg Grading and Packaging Equipment: Efficiently Solving the Pain Points of Manual Egg Collection
With the continuous increase in poultry farming, a real problem has arisen for farms—the cost of manual egg collection is rising while efficiency is declining. Faced with the massive amount of eggs produced daily by four chicken houses, traditional manual collection methods are not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also struggle to ensure timely processing and quality control of the eggs.
To address this, the farm partnered with Poultech again in 2024, introducing intelligent egg grading and packaging equipment. This equipment automatically grades eggs according to weight, typically into five grades, but can be adjusted to four or three grades depending on the farm’s specific needs. The effects were immediate after the equipment was put into operation:
Significantly Reduced Labor Costs: Completely solved the problem of high labor costs associated with egg collection in four chicken houses.
A Leap in Egg Collection Efficiency: The original egg collection time was reduced from 12 hours to 3 hours, increasing efficiency fourfold.
This change not only freed up labor but also significantly shortened the time from egg production to packaging, effectively ensuring the freshness and quality of the eggs.
Chicken Manure Drying Equipment: Practicing Green and Environmentally Friendly Farming
In the context of increasingly stringent global environmental policies, the harmless treatment of livestock waste has become a mandatory course for large-scale farms. As the number of farms continues to increase, chicken manure production has also surged—if not properly treated, this can lead to large amounts of ammonia emissions, becoming a major source of air pollution and farm odor.
Controlling the moisture content of chicken manure is key to reducing ammonia emissions. Therefore, the farm has introduced Poultech’s chicken manure drying equipment. This equipment, installed in a single nine-story poultry house housing 130,000 chickens, reduces fresh chicken manure with an average moisture content of over 80% to approximately 20% after 12-24 hours of drying.
Multiple benefits of drying treatment:
Significantly reduced ammonia emissions: Effectively controls air pollution and odor problems at the farm;
Realizing manure resources: Dried chicken manure can be sold as high-quality organic fertilizer or used internally, creating additional economic benefits for the farm;
Compliant with environmental policy guidelines: Actively responds to the national advocacy for green and ecological farming.
Comprehensive Project Benefits: Ecological, Intelligent, Economical, and Highly Efficient
Through the synergistic operation of egg grading and packaging equipment and ultra-high-rise constant-temperature chicken houses, this Zambian farm achieved a comprehensive management upgrade:
Ecological: A sophisticated manure treatment workshop transforms pollutants into valuable organic fertilizer, preventing environmental pollution.
Intelligent: Automated equipment significantly reduces manual intervention and improves management precision.
Economical: Labor costs are significantly reduced, and resource utilization efficiency is greatly improved.
Highly Efficient: The entire process from egg collection to grading and packaging has achieved a qualitative leap in efficiency.
Just as Poultech advocates—”More tech, more returns on investment”—the successful implementation of this Zambian project fully demonstrates that combining advanced farming equipment with scientific farming concepts is the only way to promote the high-quality development of the poultry farming industry.
This project in Zambia is not only a significant milestone for Poultech in the African market, but also provides a replicable success model for large-scale egg-laying hen farming in Africa. From upgrading equipment from 4 to 9 layers, from manual egg collection to intelligent grading, and from addressing manure issues to a green transformation towards resource utilization—every step demonstrates the power of modern livestock technology.
With the continued development and accelerated modernization of animal husbandry in Africa, farming models centered on intelligence, intensification, and ecology will undoubtedly usher in even broader development opportunities.
